Considering this is basically a piece of metal with a couple other pieces of metal attached by knobs, and a few cheesy looking stickers covering up what must be screwholes or rivets to hold the corner pieces on, i'd say you're getting about $20 of value for twice the price. Also, while one end is angled so the ipad basically stays flat against the backing plate and the end piece with very little play, the other end is flat and could move quite a bit if it loosens up in use. I'd watch that part very carefully while using it and tighten it up very snug. The claim that the list price on this is $99 is like a bad joke. I also saw it in the company's website for $79. Even that would make you feel swindled.Does it do the job? Yes. It held the ipad to my tripod. That said, make sure it's screwed in tight to the tripod attachment point and be careful which direction you point the ipad--it will be much less stable than a camera sitting flat on the top since you'll have to angle your tripod head out 90 degrees to get the ipad camera at a normal head on angle. You'll want one leg out on the side the ipad is on to be sure it doesn't topple. But is it the premium product it's cracked up to be? I don't think so. It's got some flexibility that the plastic models molded like an ipad case don't have, and it's got a good amount of metal content with some plastic and foam parts like the knobs and backing material to protect the ipad from scratches. But it's not gonna win any awards for elegance and could be improved with a few tweaks to the design. Again, $20 is fair. Any more than that and you might feel a little less than satisfied with what you get for it.I wasn't too sure how I was going to like this mount for my iPad, but after using it a few times, I'm totally sold on it. The build quality is very solid and strong. The metal is powder coated black, the lock down knobs are a breeze to use. When not in use, the mount takes no space in my knapsack or my luggage. Like I said, after a few uses, I'm totally sold on this mount. It takes seconds to put the iPad in or out of the mount which is a big plus for me. I use my iPad with an app called "coach's eye" to video exercises I do. I can easily set up the iPad, record video, and play back the video without any controls being blocked. If I could get a tripod that was as easy to use as this mount, I would be sitting pretty. If you are looking for a great blue tooth controller for your iPad, check out the Satechi smart pointer mobile presenter for only $45. You can remotely take pics, start/stop movies, open and control apps, adjust volume, switch tracks, and more. The unit has a nice laser pointer to tease your cats with. Here is Amazon's link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3WRM5G/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Check out the great video on the manufacturer's web site to see exactly what this little thing can do. That's my 2 cents....This mount has proven to be VERY useful for filming kids' sporting events. I purchased this along with a swivel camera mount http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000L47AHG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_53 and monopod. ONE WORD OF CAUTION: make sure the ipad is secure and the screws are tightened. We now have a shattered ipad for failing to do so. This was User error and no fault of the mount. Just a warning to be careful and make sure it is secure. That being said, this is a perfectly functional mount that is ideal for use with a monopod or tripod (remember that you'll also need a swivel camera mount if using a monopod) to free-up your arms and to provide more stable / steady video. It does not work well with "portfolio style" cases with a flip open lid. Could this be better? Yes! It's not super-high quality and no "space-age" technology is employed here. It is essentially just an adjustable bracket, but it does the job we needed doing and it was well worth the investment.I bought this to use with my tablet for recording video with my tablet. It is easy to use but even though the write up says that it fits most tablets and protectors (cases) it did not. I was able to modify the holder by extending the adjustable slide side by using a small piece of metal and attaching the tablet holder to that piece. It now works but it could be a bit more stable. The design is thoughtful but the execution not quite there. All that said, it does work and if you don't use a tablet protector or case it likely could be used out of the box. I'd suggest to the manufacturer to make the adjustable holder about 2 inches longer and this review could easily be four or five stars.I agree that it's a tad cheesy, not as "highly engineered" as I envisioned, but it accomplishes the task intended. Ideally I think I'll add some polyester washers to the knob that tightens to give it more secure tightening tactile feedback...right now you can crank it hand tight to a "stopping point" but it never feels like it's tightened enough, the pivoting bracket still has play in it once tightened, that makes me uneasy. Also, it can't be utilized without taking your iPad out of its case since it's corner to corner unless you have a Smart Cover, which I didn't think about. (my bad)I was disappointed by this product for two reasons:1) The 1/4-20 tripod mount on the back is flat up against the back, and offers no way to hold the iPad upright while using a tripod without additional hardware. I don't believe the company makes any claims specific to the idea that it'll hold it in other orientations, but most of the product images make that implication. To clarify: without using more hardware, your tablet will only be facing the ceiling when mounted on a tripod.2) Regardless of how I spun the arm around or otherwise configured the unit, it could not get a tight hold on my iPad Mini.Generally, this mount has too many moving+spinning parts, and has a hard time getting a secure hold on smaller tablets. Given the price, I do not think this is okay.
